ABOUT:
Jim Ziv was born in Dover, Ohio in 1960 and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BFA in Painting (1983). Her moved to New York City in 1983 where he collaborated with the fashion designer, J. Morgan Puett, designing and building her first four showrooms in Manhattan. Zivic began fabricating original steel framed tables and chairs in his basement studio on Greene Street in Soho.

These noteworthy designs received major magazine coverage, including Haper’s Bazaar, Elle Decor, and NY Magazine and were sought out by established interior designers, fashion icons and celebrities among them John Saladino, Yohji Yamamoto and Lou Reed. Zivic maintained a 15 year friendship and working relationship wuith Reed, designing and collaborating on his music studio and home furnishings.

In the late 1990’s, Zivic explored working with raw coal to resounding success.

Cica 1999-2000, Tom Ford commissioned Coal "‘side tables’ and ‘coffee tables’ for use in all Yves Saint Laurent global flagship locations. Due to the expanded use of the material, obtained from a mine in Hazleton, Pennsylvannia, then cut at a stone facility in Binghamton, NY. Zivic relocated his studio to a former chicken farm in Jefferson, NY. Since 2010, Zivic’s work has been represented by Ralph Pucci’s gallery/showroom in Manhattan. Zivic has produced nearly 100 tons of Coal (Anthrocite) Furniture commissions for key collectors worldwide. Another ‘signature’ work, a stainless steel framed ‘hammock’ has been purchased by Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Bloomberg and Kyle Jenner. Most recently, Zivic has been returning to creating sculptures, paintings and drawings in his upstate New York studio.
