ABOUT:
Ruth Freeman (b.1967) is a painter who spent over a decade practicing architecture in San Francisco before turning to painting full time. She holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York (2016). Her work has been exhibited in San Francisco, New York, Brooklyn, London, and the Netherlands, and has been featured in New American Paintings, The New York Times, Valley MMag, and ARTMAZE. She has recently shown her work at Utopia Gallery in Kingston, Woodstock Artists Association Museum (WAAM), and was included in the flat files at Deanna Evans Projects, New York, in 2024. She has been in group shows at The Hole Gallery, New York, Thiery Goldberg, New York, Trestle Gallery, New York, Art Austerlitz, Austerlitz, NY, The Wassaic Project Summer Exhibition 2019, Wassaic, NY and COUNTY gallery, Palm Beach, Fla. Freeman just completed a residency at The Women’s Studio Workshop through the Ora Schneider Regional Residency grant in Rosendale, NY. Other residencies include The Vermont Studio Center and The Wassaic Project. She was chosen for the Facebook AIR program in 2019 and has been exhibited at Future Fair, Seattle Art Fair, Art Market San Francisco, and Pulse Miami. She runs a project space, The Art Fort, located in the foothills of the Catskills which brings together artists from both New York City and the Hudson Valley for informal shows and art talks. Freeman lives and works in Kerhonkson, NY.
