Employing painting and drawing media, both Gissler and Ortiz play with the macro and microcosmic realms, inviting the viewer to engage in a dance of proximity as words and meticulous mark-making morph from recognizable form into abstract, otherworldly compositions. Their works speak to the concept of duality: it’s in the contrast—black and white, the macro and the micro, the material and the unseen—that we're able to understand form. The hand is evident in the process of both artists, whose contemplative practices intend balance and harmony.
